Mid-19th century Kilim from the Hotamiş tribes of south-west central Anatolia
This piece is exceptional because of its age.
Its motifs are both very primitive and very elaborate, and the colours used give a real vibrancy to the weaving.

The Hotamiş tribes are nomadic peoples who settled in the Konya region during the Seljuk period.
Their kilims are woven from medium to fine wools.
These tribes integrated the Anatolian decorative and symbolic repertoire while adapting it according to their own traditions.
The weavings of these tribes are generally very fine and very precise.
The colours used are generally dense: red, blue, beige, orange, brown and green.
Their kilims are woven from medium to fine wools.

Grease stains: soak up as much grease as possible with paper towels or terre de Sommières.
Accidents involving animals: in this case, it's very important to act quickly, as animals release acids that will damage wool. Treat your kilim following the same advice as for spilled liquids.
For a more thorough cleaning: it may be that the stains have not been completely treated, or that over the years, despite regular maintenance, dust has settled in and a grey veil has set in. In such cases, it's time to turn to a professional.
