A rug is much more than a simple decorative accessory.
It plays a fundamental role in the overall ambience of a room, giving it a real identity.
It gives structure and harmony to the space, and creates a warm atmosphere.

Choosing the right size

The first thing to determine, even before choosing a motif, is the size required. Depending on the destination, the rules differ. The only common rule is that the rug should be proportional to the size of the room, and that it's better to choose a slightly larger rug than one that's too small. A rug that's too small will unbalance the space and visually dwarf the room.

In front of a sofa, the length of the kilim should be at least equal to the width of the sofa.
Sofa on the carpet or off the carpet?
There's really no rule. What may determine the choice is the proportion of the room or the kilim motif.

Under a dining room table, add about 50 cm on each side of the table to allow chairs to be placed on the rug. This rule applies especially to knotted rugs. As kilims are not very thick, the back legs of the chairs can protrude.
But the size of the room may be greater than the size of the table.

In a corridor, leave at least 10 cm between the kilim and the wall.

Traditional or contemporary

The choice between a traditional or contemporary rug pattern depends on a number of factors,
including the style of the room, the ambience you want to create and your personal preferences.

Traditional kilims are often rich in pattern and color. They bring a touch of warmth, culture and history.
They work ideally with primitive art, and also integrate perfectly
classic or bohemian interiors.
With their geometric patterns, they will also work well in modern, designer interiors. They can be used to contrast or blend styles.

Contemporary kilims will either reinterpret traditional motifs, but in a more sober way or by playing on color nuances; or have more refined, modern, abstract motifs.
Colors, too, will be reinvented, with an infinite palette ranging from bright colors to pastels, as well as completely neutral tones.
The materials used and the results achieved mean that they are a natural fit for contemporary interiors, but also for more classic interiors.
